Mazzy Star - California

I'm breaking (again) my no Vevo rule here to share the new clip from the sublime new Mazzy Star album, "Seasons Of Your Day". The video isn't up to much but I feel obliged to share music of such majesty it should not go unnoticed. Dave Roback & Hope Sandoval, thank-you.

The Neighbourhood - Sweater Weather

California's The Neighbourhood may spell like they're an English band, but they are most certainly more diner than Greasy Spoon. Take this monochromatic video from their album "I Love You" for example. It's Hipstimatic aesthetic is that same brand of Levis freedom Lana Del Rey sells. But lets not get too cynical here, apparently it's an identity frontman Jesse Rutherford insists on rather than an image borne out of a marketing think tank. I like the song, a lot, the album though strays to far into the commercial rock realm for my tastes but I'm sure we'll be hearing plenty more from this band of black and white bros.

The Beach Boys - That's Why God Made The Radio

I've got mixed feelings about this clip. On one hand it gently reflects the different generations of California youths frolicking freely on their beaches accompanied by their radios. On the other, it's cliched and lazy, shot like something akin to a soft drink commercial. Nice tune though... Have a look.

Delta Spirit - California

Originally from California but now based in Brooklyn (where else), Delta Spirit's woozy ode to Californian youth is wistfully captured here by director Abteen Bagheri. While not being the most original of premises or executions, his focus on the young girl's experiences and resulting uncertainty with her new clique come across really well. Bagheri is a relatively new director previously responsible for ASAP Rocky's hoodlum-packed 'Peso'.

The song's grown on me too after watching this clip a couple of times
