Blink 182 and Transplants drummer, Travis Barker, gets some heavyweight hip-hop talent on his upcoming solo record, Give The Drummer Some. The first single alone has some of the biggest stars in hip-hop and impressive start to an intriguing project. Lining up on the record elswhere are Raekwon, RZA, Clipse, Kid Cudi, Snoop, Ludacris, Drake and so many more; saying more about who he didn't get on than who he did.
The album title refers to an Ultramagnetic MC's track of the same name which sampled & referenced James Brown's, Funky Drummer. And frankly, anything that references Ultramagnetic MC's deserves a look-in immediately.
Of course this isn't new territory for Travis having performed a hip-hop/punk hybrid with his band the Transplants for two albums, and apparently, the third on its way this year. With Damon Dash's 'Blackroc' project releasing album number two this year also, there looks to be some compelling competition stirring up hip hop and rock. Probably better revisit the 'Judgement Night' soundtrack now too...
