Bands that sounded great at SXSW 2013

I didn't go to the festival this year, but following my research, here's some new(ish) bands that sounded great from reviews and/or put on memorable shows across the sweltering week in Austin, Texas. I think you'll find plenty to get on with.

K.I.D.S. - Ragged Old Angels

Hard to search for this band. So you don't have to, they are Charles Cave, bassist for White Lies and Rosanna Munter, from... Stockholm, but based in London. They were at SXSW recently and sound very good.

Mary Epworth - Black Doe

I don't like to do this, as this video is terrible. It's a awful splice of Fiona Apple's 'Criminal' with other random images of boxing and poor after effects. But the song, the song is fantastic!
Mary Epworth is an English singer, clearly leading a band of talented psychedelia & gospel channeling players. Her debut album is out now, "Dream life" and she is playing SXSW this year. Again, damn I wish I was going...

Jamie N Commons - The Preacher

An unlikely but superbly gravel-voiced baritone emerges on his debut blues E.P, 'The Baron'. This song tells the story of an evangelical preacher from Alabama who strangled his wife, chopped her up and popped her body in a freezer.
He has an odd geographical history too - born in Bristol, then moved to Chicago at six, then back to the West Country at sixteen. I'd love to hear that accent. He's definitely one to keep and ear on this year and he's performing at this year's SXSW, if you're heading to Austin. Wish I was...

Feral Future - College

Feral Future are from Austin, Texas, featuring three gals & a guy, Their ragged punk rock recalls a faster, brattier  Royal Trux and they're performing at SXSW this year. I love the lo-fi messiness of this video for 'College'.
