Gossamer - Print

Evan Reiner is a complicated man. He grew up in the outskirts of LA listening to Slayer, Cannibal Corpse and Hardcore and now makes beats steeped in loneliness and isolation. It's got an early Ninja Tune sound and feel to it but roughed up and lonelier, alot lonelier. Still it's how I like my beats, melancholic. Most certainly check out his album 'Automaton' on Innovative Leisure and get a glimpse into a distant childhood (although I don't think it's his) through this abstract video.

Kamera - Cold Land (360° Music Video)

Here is some serious breakbeat science from Kamera. A constantly evolving digital environment can be manipulated through moving your smartphone or touching the directional keys on the top left of the screen on a PC. Incredible, and hypnotizing. I'd love to see what else is possible with this tool. Or maybe it's a mind control tool? Think about it...

El Remolon - Energia Natural Feat Runin Suy (Chancha Via Circuito Remix)

ZZK records out of Argentina bring two of my favourite producers together for a Peruvian Aztec Dub workout. I love everything Chancha Via Circuito produces, often warm and infused with music of two worlds; dub and Latin rhythms, If you haven't check out the ZZK catalogue and this Andean magic eye experience of a video.

Palmbomen II - Cindy Savalas

Beats In Space keep bringing those mysterious cosmic sounds and this video trilogy from the
Palmbomen II LP veers all over the dark VHS heart of the late 80s. I'd like to know where he sourced all these clips from and also makes me wonder where my VHS collection got to, particularly all the B-movie titles we loved.

Strung Out - Modern Drugs

Strung Out are still banging out the punk rock anthems and while this style is not to many peoples tastes, it's a familiar style that I always love to hear when there is a great song. Out on Fat Wreck Chords the band (and label) have ridden the rollercoaster of shifting tastes and times to remain one of the influential bands coming out of the American hardcore scene of the 90s alongside other Fat favourites Good Riddance, Propagandi, NOFX and of course the genesis of the sound, Bad Religion.

The video references the song's theme of drugs and addiction, but it's the tune that really gets me.
Transmission.Alpha.Delta is out now.

Flume - Some Minds (feat. Andrew Wyatt)

Flume and Miike Snow's Andrew Wyatt have prepared a intoxicating glitch soup on the Australian producer's new single. In the video director Clemens Habicht (Tame Impala, Bloc Party, The Presets) invades the Sydney Opera House one evening and superimposes Australian Ballet member Callum Linnane throughout the glorious empty building.

TAME IMPALA - Cause I'm A Man

Tame Impala are investing in interesting video to launch their new album full of psychedelic indie rock and disco; 'Cause I'm A Man' seems to incorporate those prominent 80's soft rock sounds even further. But that's not entirely fair, more than that you can hear (singer/guitarist) Kevin Parker walking down a Beatles inspired lane across these few singles from the new album, reinforcing his reputation as tunesmith of formidable talent.
The 'live-action' video featuring a new Muppets house band is great and changes the tone from the same song released as a Max Headroom-like 3D video a couple of weeks ago.
That's also below after the new clip. But really this can't touch 'Let It Happen' another cut from their new album 'Currents' out July 17th via Interscope.

Lapalux - Puzzle (feat. Andreya Triana)

Lapalux's new album 'Lustmore' is a superb blend of skittering jazz beats and minor-key melodies, in equal parts sonumbulant and melacholic. Director Nick Rutter's 'Puzzle' captures this perfectly in a dark romantic tale of a mechanic in love with a strange car in the night. Andreya Triana is on beautiful form here too, floating through the song like lost chanteuse from a different time.

Fono - Real Joy

At first this looks like one of those formulaic coming of age dance videos and then... I won't give it away but it's worth watching for the terrific and brutal twist director Simon Cahn (http://www.pulsefilms.com/director/simon-cahn/usa) adds to the video. I can only imagine that he looked at the song title and thought, "what's the opposite of real joy?"
"Malice".
But that's me guessing, in any case to get an original (commercial) dance video is somewhat infrequent, so he's succeeded in aiding the song to stand out albeit with some restrictions in audience due to its content.
It's also an incumbent dance anthem by the looks of it with spins by Radio 1's Annie Mac and Monki.

Raketkanon - Anna

Belgium's Raketkanon deliver menacing psych with a crazed grunge streak and for this video they sent up one of the most famous videos of the MTV generation, Guns N Roses - November Rain. It's excellent and frankly I can't believe it hadn't been done yet.

They're playing tonight at the Shacklewell Arms too:

Wednesday, April 29th
£5 Adv | Doors: 8pm
Raketkanon, Trojan Whores

HEALTH - NEW COKE

HEALTH are evolving into a more of a dystopian nightmare than they are a band. The themes are getting darker and more visceral with slogans like "YOU WILL LOVE EACH OTHER" and images of slow motion vomiting. Still, if this upsets you they offer a counselling service and you can call the number at the end of the video and speak to John from the band.
DEATH MAGIC is out August 7th.

Hitchhiker 히치하이커 - 11

Something is going on in South Korea. Hitchhiker's '11' is like a video you'd expect Major Lazer to do. It's fascinating, bizarre and totally compelling. Trap, bass, baby samples and Sims-like animations. It's useless trying to make sense of this, but it is outstanding in its originality and for that alone, you should check this out.

Tigermonkey - OCD ADD

Tigermonkey are London-based duo of producer/vocalist Guy Katsav and vocalist Madeleine Dunbar joining to create a hybrid of pop and hip-hop heavily influenced by acts from the 80s and 90s. I'm not going to name names but this is a really good time; simple, unabashed pop music.

Julio Bashmore - Peppermint ft. Jessie Ware

What a fine clip to accompany this retro-fitted house garage anthem now with added Jessie Ware. Is it too stylistic for mass club popularity though? Perhaps, it's not an easy anthem like Duke Dumont and Route 94 are spinning out, but great nonetheless. You remember 'Au Seve' from 2012/2013 of course, and his production for Jessie Ware, so the man has no trouble producing classic-sounding records.

Atoms For Peace - Before Your Very Eyes

Where have I been? Just got around to seeing this incredible clip by director Andrew Thomas Huang, and it's time you did too. He's created fantastic clips for Bjork, Maximum Balloon, Delphic & Sigur Ros and this is another evolution in his unique visual effects style drawing on inspirations such as Chris Cunningham and Jim Henson.

London Grammar - Wasting My Young Years

Up and coming (London) band and collaborators on Disclosure's forthcoming record pack melodic and emotional heft on par with the XX but Hannah Reid's vocals soar far higher into anthem lighting status. Check the excellent video and fall politely in love with the next big thing.

Jake Emlyn - The Wonka Hath Landed

I caught Jake supporting Riff Raff and was completely bowled over. Arguably more musical than Riff Raff's pantomime, Jake has incredible flows, hilarious one-liners ("White trash like Kate Nash") and a compelling original image, whats not to like?! It's all here in this video. The Wonka hath landed!

Infinity Ink - Infinity

I love Dawn Shadforth videos! You may know her better as the director who made Kylie's 'I Can't Get You Out Of My Head' among many other great clips. But to underline my enthusiasm for her videos even further, I'd also like to point out Peaches - Kick It, Moloko - Fun For Me & Oasis - The Importance of Being Idle were all amazing videos too. She's been quiet since last year's Charli XCX video 'You're The One', which was great but entirely overshadowed by the enormous Dub Phizix remix, which is about all I want to hear from Charli and her Roman numerals.

So, watch her new video for London-based vocal / music production / DJ duo Luca C and Brit Ali Love aka Infinity Ink.

Depeche Mode - Heaven

Old collaborator of Depeche Mode and consistent El-P collaborator Timothy Saccenti goes to the church and adds some mysterious symbolism for someone to make something up about. Very much looking forward to the album.

Alice In Chains - Hollow

It's good to see Alice In Chains haven't cheered up one bit. And this video brings to mind all sorts of psychologically space-themed thrillers including 'Alien', '2001, A Space Odyssey' and even 'Sunshine'. The follow-up to 2009's 'Black Gives Way To Blue' is out sometime soon...
